Sellers of Stearns, KY et al

My mother was Ava Sellers, born 1896. Brother Thomas
Jefferson Sellers, sister Clara T. Sellers, brother McKinley
(?) (Major),  All perhaps of Indian Head, Ky (no longer in
existence.)  My mother's mother was a Strunk.  She had one
uncle I know of named Charles Zachary Strunk (I was name
Charles Zachary Souleyrette after him.)  Any of this ring a
bell.
BTW, Tom (TJ) had two children Elizabeth Louise (Betty Lou)
and Glenn Wood.
I run dry right about there.
I hope I've connected into some relatives and I can learn
more.  If not, sorry to have bothered you.
Charles

Somewhere I have an account of Chuck's recollection
of Major 'shooting' a man to death.  I'll locate it and
  send it on.  OK?

   Thanks - best wishes    Mickey

Marie:  I 'lifted this' from email message to Sherri - I suspect she will send you what I sent to
her;
but she is busy with reunion Souleyrette/Souleyret at the moment.  So.....
here is what Chuck recalls of the Major - gun - shooting incident.

               take care        Mickey

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LON told Charles this story:  A neighbor woman came pounding on Ava's front door.  When
Ava admitted the woman, the woman said her husband was drunk and beating her.   Major was
upstairs sleeping.  The drunken neighbor came bursting through the front door, yelling loudly and
using profane language; which awaken Major.  Major came half way down the stairs, and when
the drunken man saw him, he cursed and threatened Major.  Without saying a word, Major turned
and went back up the stairs;  picked up Lon's pistol, came back downstairs, and, without saying a
word, shot the neighbor to death!

              Whereupon, Major disappeared.
Lon and Tom Sellers spent a lot of time and effort searching for Major.  When they located
him, they convinced him that he must return to Danville, he would not be imprisoned, but he would
be "wanted' until he cleared the matter up.  According to Lon, that is exactly what happened, and
  Major was never jailed.
Chuck's opinion is that the only thing Major could have been jailed for would have been
"murder," and had he been convicted of murder, Charles doesn't believe he would have seen Uncle
Major again!  Major would have been executed or given a life sentence.
Chuck remembers walking with Uncle Maj when Chuck was about 4 years old.  In fact,
every time Uncle Major came to visit, he and Chuck went for long walks.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  -------------------------------------------------------

Charles remembers an Aunt Sarah [Sara] whose last name was Roberts; he doesn't know
  how that relationship worked!

      MARIE      AND     ROSE MARY

In the 'facts' I sent about Charles Souleyret, I made a huge
error!

Daughter Ava and Tom Cabelus were married on 3 February
1996;
I read over the info before I hit the clicked
"send".....but......

{they began dating in highschool - dated in college- but
Ava moved to California to be near us [she graduated from
Geo. Mason Univ. in Fairfax, VA]...after a few years they
lost touch.    In 1992, Tom wrote a postcard -hoping the
address would be correct -to say he had a nephew.  Robin and
Craig had just had Michael a couple of months earlier!   One
thing lead to another - and in 1996 they were married.
Ending the bicoastal courtship!!!  Lisa and Michael were
part of the wedding party.}
     Isn't that romantic????

Robin and Craig met at Disneyland where they both
worked!!!

More info than you wanted to know, but......

Looking forward to see you, RoseMary at the reunion on 7
Oct..

Marie:  I'll keep alert for any other connections to Sellers
- doubt there is any, but you never can tell.

     Best wishes to you both!

Hi, Marie;
Charles Souleyret here.  My wife Marie is going to write you tomorrow about the following.  It
seems to me all of your info is incorrect.  My mother was A.W.Sellers, (Ava Western Sellers);
however, that does not give me an inside track.  I've learned   more from Sherri than I did from all of
my family.
Anyway, it's just after midnight here and all eyes are blurred.
Oh, one more thing, my wife Marie MacTaggart Souleyret was wondering where in Iowa you live.
My wife grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa.  It's still a "hotbed" of MacTaggarts.  If you don't mind,
let her know where you live.  We've moved to Westminster (Orange County) Ca.  My children,
Ava and Robin grew up in the S.F. Bay area (Hayward).
Cheers and off to bed.
Chuck
PS  You must have heard about the big Souleyret and Souleyrette and Souleret (all the same family)
blow out in Upton, Ky., on 7 October.  We expect to double the population of Upton.  Wife Marie
is typing up name tags from 2 x 4 shipping labels and she is well over the 100 mark and more
coming in every day.
Again, Cheers

CHARLES, Thanks, Yes, Please send any corrections, so we can post same
on these county pages,etc.
I was born in Decatur Co, IA, middle of the state, right on the MO
border. I believe in Cerro Gordo Co, IA , middle of the state, almost on
the MN border.
IF the SOULEYRET reunion looks like it connects to SELLERS, we can post
it on the HARDIN CO, KY page and send it thru this discussion group to
advise all. Thanks, marie, iowa

I'm not sure just how I should post this, but I now have written evidence that Ava
Western Sellers was born on April 13, 1896, and NOT in 1895 as previously reported.
More than likely Sherri Hall will be making a report also.  The confirmation of
birth date comes from Ava's scholarship application to Eastern Kentucky University
in 1914.  The deal was that if Ava (and others) would agree to go back into the
hills and teach then EKU would give a full scholarship to whoever.

If any others have a connection to EKU (at Richmond, KY) "Lainhart, Sue"
<Sue.Lainhart@eku.edu> is the person to contact.  She was very helpful to me.
