FREDRIC'S PAGE
         NubianWrit@aol.com

My name is Fredric Van Sellers of Akron, Ohio.  For the last year, I have
been putting together the family tree for the family of Sellers.
For what I understand my family were from Montgomery, Alabama.
I know my great-grandfather, Dave Sellers, owned a farm (sugar cane)
outside
of Montgomery, Ala. in a place called "Egyptland."  He was born abt. 1866.
His wife's name was Sarah (maiden name not known).
Dave had three sons, Arthur, Shellie and Preston.  Arthur was my
grandfather.
He moved to Akron, Ohio after he married Cora Delihay (Dec. 15, 1907).
They
had one son, David Conrad Sellers, who married Ruby Valentine from
Maryville,
Tennessee (my parents).
I was born in Akron, Ohio, on September 22, 1935.  I have two brothers, Leo
DeWitt Sellers and David James Prater (step-brother).
If you have knowledge or information that you could send me about any
Sellers
that may be related to me, it would highly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Notes for RUBIE MAE VALENTINE:
My mother, Rubie, was the oldest of the children of George D. Valentine.
She
was considered the flower of the family.  Her father and her did not get
along all the time, but she was the favorite of Ola, her mother.  She was
about 5 ft. 3 in. and of medium built and a very beautiful woman!

Rubie attended and graduated from Knoxville College in 1926 with a degree
in
Education.  She was the one that her parents chose to send to college.

My understanding at this time, that she married Troy Prater and had her
first
son, David James Prater.  Some say that David was not the son of Troy, but
the son of her and Rev. Brown!  Rubie had divorced Troy and married David
C.
Sellers of Akron, Ohio.  He was the son of Arthur and Cora Sellers.  David
was attending the University of Akron at the time.  This union resulted in
the birth of me, Fredric V. Sellers.  Things did not go well, so she left
Dave and went back to Troy!  It is said that she became pregnant with Leo
by
Troy, Rubie returned to David in Akron and gave birth to Leo.  Dave
accepted
Leo as his.  Rubie later left David (for reasons not known at this time)
and
returned to Troy with her sons.

It is said that Rubie's death was caused by an abortion attempt in 1939.
Evidently, she  designated who she wanted to raise her children.  Troy and
his second wife, Lela, raised David.  Her brother, Francis, and his wife,
Myrtle, raised Leo.  Dave's parents, Arthur and Cora Sellers raised me.

Rubie was buried in the family cemetary on Valentine hill.

MARIE - Again, I'm thanking you.  I hope you will be patient with me for a
while, but I assure you I'm working on the information you sent me, and the
suggestions you've given me.  I'm more determined then ever to learn all I
can about Genealogy...there is so much to it.  In the last few weeks I've
been 'nervous as a longtail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.'  I get
that way when I'm faced with having to really dig into something
new...there's more to this then I ever dreamed!

Last week, I went to BORDERS book store and purchased "FINDING A PLACE CALLED
HOME," by DEE PARMER WOODTOR (A GUIDE TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN GENEALOGY AND
HISTORICAL IDENTITY).  It's a really interesting source of information...I
can't keep my nose out of it.

Back to the business at hand...I haven't had too much luck with the 1860/1870
census for MONTGOMERY CO, AL...I think I'm searching wrong.  I'll figure it
out soon.

I'm working on the list of names you sent me.  I'll send you whatever results
I get.  There is additional information I have of my own family, and my older
brother's to send you.

Thanks, and a wonderful night.

Fred
