James
LEWIS, son of William LEWIS. was born before 1879 in NC. He was
married
and living in Bulloch County, GA in 1822. James LEWIS moved his
family
to Baker County, Ga in 1827. He was on the 1830 census but died
Fenruary
5, 1836. His place of burial is not known. His children (from the family
bible)
are: Amy (LEWIS) HOWEL, Seaburn, Allen, Dicey (LEWIS) CROSBY,
Margaret
LEWIS, and Henry LEWIS > Dicey married Joshua J. CROSBY. He
was
the first sheriff of MITCHELL County after it
Baker County was sub-divided
and
part of it came to be Mitchell County. Allen LEWIS married lst Elender
SELLARS
December 8. 1841 and six children were born. Elender, age 31, died
November
4, 1855. Will exchange information.

Jesse
SELLERS b GA ca 1827 married Eliza WEST b NC ca 1831. Their son,
John
was b possibly Baker Co., 1848. Did Jesse die in the Civil War? When?
Where?
When did Eliza die? Where is she buried? Was Jesse related to A.C.
SELLERS
who was 20-30 years of age in 1840?
Elijah
SELLERS b NC ca 1812 married Susan WEST; their daughter, Mary,
married
James W. MARTIN. Who were other children of Elijah and Susan?
When
and where did Susan die? These two families were cut into Mitchell
Co.,
GA when it was created. Interested in land records.
Most of my GA WEST family members of the 1800's down to present times
were
married to/descended from/associated with SELLERS. There is an affinity
there existing today. For information to other GA researchers of
SELLERS/WEST connections I offer the following which can be documented
in
one way or another. Some of my documentation had come from lengthy
military records found National Archives original records, Washington,
D.C. I will
cite those for interested researchers but due to length and complexity
will neither abstract or transcribe.
James E. WEST b NC probably Bladen Co., ca 1804, first enumerated
by name
James WEST, no middle initial, 1840 Baker Co., GA married unknown
in NC
,probably Bladen Co. ca 1830, no marriage
record found to date; died
probably Colquitt Co., GA after 1880.
James' eldest documented (on census
Baker Co., GA by age category) child, Eliza b NC ca 1831, married
Jesse
SELLERS. Their union was enumerated Baker Co., GA population census
of
1850.
James E. WEST, above, was nephew to Gibson b NC ca 1790 died Mitchell
Co.,
GA after 1867; and William WEST b NC ca 1790 died Baker Co., GA
just
before Mitchell Co. was formed from Baker. I have papers of administration
from
which William's death was calculated. That Susan was a child of
William
and
Anna Jane Thomas WEST is inferred from fact Anna Jane moved into
the
household of Elijah and Susan SELLERS after William' s death.
I have not
gotten to population census of 1870 to determine stated relationships
of
Elijah to others in household.
Gibson and William WEST and families were enumerated Burke
Co., GA 1820.
William lived Burke Co. until right after 1830 census enumeration;
Gibson's Burke Co. land was sold 1847; he was enumerated with family
Baker Co., GA
1850.
I will gladly answer any questions about this line and as stated
will cite
sources for interested parties to obtain their own records. I have
deeds,
census, probate, newspaper, family Bible, etc. For family Bible
records I
will need to contact present day Bible owner to determine whether
to post
to 'net.
I am interested in learning of any SELLERS/WEST connection either
NC
(Bladen and Duplin
Co.'s) or GA, Burke, Baker, Mitchell and Colquitt Counties.
Happy Hunting!

Subject: PORTEVINT, SELLERS
Listmembers, Samuel SELLERS was in Baker Co., GA by 1840. James PORTEVINT
married a Nancy WEST and they were in Baker Co., GA by 1850, having
bought
land from James WEST about 1848. Samuel is "thought" to have married
a Jane
[Unknown]. Jane SELLERS left a large estate in Colquitt
Co., GA in the early
1900's.
A.C. SELLERS was also in Baker Co. by 1840 and Elijah SELLERS was
in Baker
Co. by 1850. Elijah married Susan WEST. Wright SELLERS arrived in
Baker Co.,
with his NC bride Myriam or Marianne MERRITT.
I would like to contact anyone researching the NC ancestry/connections
of
these folks. I have a bit of GA information on them that I will
happily
provide interested persons.
Thanks for any information/clues/sources, etc.

Subject: ROBERSON/SELLERS families
Listmembers, James M. ROBERSON [rarely spelled ROBINSON] was
enumerated 1840 Baker Co., GA.
Samuel SELLERS was also enumerated 1840 Baker Co., GA.
I suspect these families may have travelled together from
Sampson Co. to
Baker Co., GA. I would like to correspond with anyone who
has information on
a group of folks leaving Sampson Co. after the census of
1830 and arriving
Baker Co., GA in time to be enumerated on the census of
1840. Actually, I
have reason to believe the Sampson County group may have
arrived Baker Co.,
GA by or before 1835.
Any help/clues/sources appreciated.
