           Sellersgen@aol.com
You asked for help from anyone who knew these above Sellers in the 1900
census of Montgomery Co., IL.

Family #1: I recently sent information on Asa Franklin Sellers and his wife
Josephine, know as "Aunt Jose."  See my 2/29 response to query about
Sellers of Greene Co., PACoshocton Co., OH.

Family #2: Joseph P. Sellers is Joseph Preston Sellers, son of Daniel
Sellers and Meeky M. Beck of Montgomery Co., IL.  He was my great great uncle.
Daniel Sellers and Samuel Sellers (see below) were brothers.  Joseph
Preston was the fifth child in a family of 10 children.

He was born Jan. 8, 1952 in Montgomery Co., IL, and died May 16, 1934, and
is buried in Olive Hill Cemetery.  He married Martha Jane Ewing on December
25, 1882.  He became a schoolteacher and a farmer.  In the 1900 census he is
listed as a school teacher.  He taught in Mulberry Grove, IL and
Carlinville, IL among other places.

In the 1860 census he is 6 years old living at home in Hillsboro Twp.  In
the 1870 census, he is 17 living at home in Hillsboro Township.  But he is also
counted as living at the home of George Swan, a neighbor, where he worked
as a hired hand while he was in his teens.  Here the census gives his age as
19, but he was the only Sellers that George Swan ever had working for him.

Children Flossie Fern, b. 1887 and Irvine Earl, b. 1890, both died in 1893.
Aura Jay (the initial is a J despite the censustaker's handwriting) was
born July 4, 1884, and Pauline (Eunice) was b. March 1896.

Family #3: Samuel Sellers was my great grandfather.  See Montgomery Co., IL
page.  Information is as follows:

Samuel Sellers is a son of Henry and Barbara (Ohmart) Sellers of Montgomery
Co., IL.  Samuel born in Logan Co., OH, Jan. 12, 1829.  He is shown here
with his second wife, Ann Elizabeth Steel (or Stiehl) Williams and two
daughters. Bertha is his wife's daughter from her first marriage, and Cora Adreanna,
b. 1-27-1874 is his daughter from his marriage to Ann Elizabeth Steel
Williams.

Samuel Sellers died May 8, 1909 after being thrown from a wagon by a team
of runaway horses.  He is buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Montgomery Co., IL.

His Death Certificate:
died:  1 a.m., May 8, 1909
age:   80 years, 3 months, 26 days
length of residence:  67 years a resident of IL
place of death: Fillmore Township
Cause:  brain concussion
buried:  5-10-1909
where: Shiloh Cemetery
Euris Harris undertaker, F. W. Barry physician.

You'll also find him in the 1855 census conducted by the state of Illinois,
and in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records.  He is with his first wife
Ruth in 1860, with no wife in 1870 as Ruth died, and with second wife Ann
E. in the 1880 census.  I've always simply assumed he is in the 1890 census if
there was one.

Aaron Lyerla
AARON LYERLA, a former well known farmer of Cherokee County, whose farm was in sections 9 and 16, Shawnee township, died April 3, 1892. He was born in Union County, Illinois, February 28, 1850, and was a son of Solomon and Delilah (Williams) Lyerla. The Lyerla family were among the pioneer settlers in Illinois, having moved to that state from North Carolina at an early day. Aaron Lyerla's grandfather moved to Jackson County, Illinois, form[sic] the Old North State, bringing all he had in a two-wheel ox cart.
Solomon Lyerla was born in Jackson County, Illinois, and remained on the home farm until about the time of his marriage, when he entered a tract of land and engaged in farming. He continued adding to his property, which was situated in Union County, until he became an extensive land owner for those days. This property he sold about the year 1859, and bought a 360-acre farm in Montgomery County, Illinois, where he lived until his death. He was a justice of the peace for many years, in Union and Montgomery counties. He was married twice, and 11 children were born to his union with Delilah Williams, his second wife. Of these, the following grew to maturity: Jacob, a resident of Montgomery County, Illinois; Calvin; William R., who is engaged in farming in Shawnee township, Cherokee County; Richard, of Montgomery County, Illinois; Mary Jane, wife of P. W. Plyler, of Montgomery County; Sarah Ann, deceased, who was the wife of Frank Sellers; Margaret E., wife of William Redmond, of Montgomery County; Solomon, of Jackson County, Illinois; and Aaron. The parents of the subject of this sketch were members of the Christian Church.

Aaron Lyerla spent the first nine years of his life on his father's farm in
Union County, Illinois, and then moved with the family to the Montgomery County
farm, where he grew to manhood, becoming familiar with all kinds of farm work.
There he remained, following the occupation of farming, until 1883, when he
moved to Kansas, and located on a 160-acre tract which he had purchased. Four
years afterward he returned to Illinois, and managed his mother's farm until the
time of his death.

A stanch Democrat, Mr. Lyerla always voted the ticket as set fourth by that party, yet did not take a prominent part in political affairs. Fraternally, he affiliated with the Masons, having become a member of that order in his native State. He was a consistent member of the Christian Church, in which he was a faithful worker.
In 1872 Mr. Lyerla was married to Sarah Catherine Sellers, a daughter of Samuel
Sellers, of Montgomery County, Illinois. Four children were born to this union,
all of whom are living. They are as follows: Adah Heletha (Mrs. Fay Stone), of
Villa Ridge, Illinois; Eva Delilah (Mrs. Earl Bray), of Joplin, Missouri; Elsie
Addie Euphemia (Mrs. Authur Gibson), now living at Messer, Kansas; and Walter
S., living on the old home place. Mrs. Lyerla's father was born and reared near
Dayton, Ohio. Although much of his time was spent in doing farm work, he was a
carpenter by trade, and at intervals followed that occupation. Although not a
politician, he took some interest in politics, always voting the Democratic
ticket. He married Ruth Isarurah Moniah Isabelle Buchanan Beck, a daughter of
John Beck. Of the seven children born to them, six are now living, namely:
Sarah Catherine, widow of the subject of this sketch; Euphemia Alice (Mrs.
William R. Lyerla), of Shawnee township, Cherokee County; Andrew Preston, of
Decatur, Illinois; Melvin Powell, living at Grand Junction, Colorado; Amasa
Erastus, of Illinois; and Samuel Wesley, of Grand Junction, Colorado. Mrs.
Sellers was a member of the Christian Church. Her death occurred during the
Civil War, in 1864. The father is still living, hale and hearty, at the age of
77 years. His home is in Coffeen, Montgomery County, Illinois.

Mrs. Lyerla resides on the 160 acres originally purchased by her husband on his arrival in Kansas. It is good, rich farm land, much of it under cultivation, and with the assistance and good management of her son, Walter S., who lives on the farm, it brings forth all the products of the average farm. As is the custom of large land holders in this part of the country, a part of the farm is rented out.

I am looking for information on Frederick K. Siler/Sellers who lived in
Madison, Bond and Montgomery counties from 1856 thru 1876. Found that this
family lived in South Litchfield Twp. Montgomery Co on the 1855 Illinois
State census. On the 1860 U.S. Census for Montgomery Co., this family was
living around Walshville. Is there a cemetery that is close to Walshville
but is over the township line into South Litchfield Twp.where these people
could be buried? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nathan,

I don't have any information specifically on your grandfather, but if you
can trace him back a bit farther, he will probably connect somehow with
my great-great-great grandparents Henry SELLERS (1800-1848) and Barbara
OHMART (1801-1883). Most of their descendants settled around Coffeen,
Montgomery Co., IL and Decatur, Macon Co., IL, where they are heavily intermarried
with the BECK and LYERLA families.

I would be interested in communicating with any descendants of this couple.
Have you done any research into censuses, marriage records, etc.?

Jenise,

I can't add any information about your BOST line, but I have a pretty lot
of SELLERS data. (I am descended from a sister of Susannah SELLERS' father
Daniel SELLERS). You can view it on my web site by clicking on the URL
below.

My database had the children of Caleb & Susannah as Clara, Frank, Oscar
and Otis. If "Otis" is really James Otis, does that mean that Oscar is
really Daniel Oscar or Oscar Daniel?

Bob,

Great to hear from you! As far as sharing, my yesterday's post contained
a link to the page for Henry SELLERS & Barbara OHMART on my genealogy web
site; if you followed that link you will have found all the OHMART data
I have. For the last four years or so I've been working mainly on my
paternal ancestry, so the information that I have online for my mother's side is
pretty much all I've got. I put everything on the web pages, even my source
notes.

My information on the descendants of George M. OHMART is very sketchy,
based only on old correspondence (pre 1980), so I would appreciate anything
you can add to what is on my chart. (Click on the link below.) I don't
even have birthdates for most of his children. Was Margaret the mother
of all of them, or were some of them children of his second wife Isabell
ELLIOTT?

Was Margaret MOOMAW a sister to Jacob MOOMAW who married George's sister
Betsy OHMART? Do you have any data on the descendants of Jacob & Betsy?
