    100th Sellers Reunion - 2006

The descendants of Felix Perry and Mary Magdalene (Tillman) Sellers will be holding the 100th consecutive reunion on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006. Activities will commence the day before, on Saturday afternoon from 2 - 4:30 pm for those wishing to tour various cemeteries where some of the descendants are laid to rest in southern Kosciusko Co, beginning at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton, IN. The cemetery is located south of Pierceton on SR 13. The tour will continue on south to the Eel River Church cemetery and the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, east of Liberty Mills. A second tour is planned for Sunday morning from 9 - 11:30 am, beginning at the Hillcrest Cemetery, in Pierceton and following the same routes. The main centennial event will take place Sunday at Heritage Park Community Building in Etna Green, Indiana. Beginning with the tour in the morning, then at noon, a brief business meeting, family devotional time, then a carry-in meal around 1 p.m., located in the air condition! ed community building. Other activities will include crafts, baked items, family heirlooms, pictures, and genealogy. The park setting includes areas for children to play and some outdoor sports to be enjoyed. Descendants of both Sellers' and Tillman's are invited to attend this celebration of family. The mid-day meal is a pot luck and participants will need to bring their own table service. The Sellers family are a proud part of the pioneer heritage of Kosciusko, Wabash, and surrounding counties and have been holding their reunions every year for the last 100 yrs. The Sellers clan represented at this gathering come from a line that is thought to have originated from a Presbyterian oriented Scottish/Irish heritage. Immigrating in the very early 1700's and originally settling in the central south of Pennsylvania. From there migrating to Kentucky, then up to Preble Co. Ohio, near Dayton - where Felix Perry was born, as was his future bride Mary Magdalene Tillman. From that ! area certain family lines moved farther north, into the Liberty Mills, IN area - just north of North Manchester, IN. As time passed from this point, the Sellers' descendants moved to all areas of the country. Perry and Mary Sellers had 10 children: Orlando Greeley, Isadora Luticia, Nathan Hazard, Clarence Henry, Melvin Wright, Emery Marion, Ida Florence, Lenna Alma, Everett Eldon, and Ancil Leroy. Many of Perry and Mary's descendants have chosen to remain in the Kosciusko Co area or surrounding counties in northern Indiana, while others can be found in California, Montana, Michigan, Kansas, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois. If you would like more information concerning the reunion and the events, feel free to contact Louis Diehl (president) at 260-593-3553; email: lad2243@locl.net or Linda Sellers Foster (secretary) at 269-483-7220; email: lkf@voyager.net .

Hello Kosciusko researchers,
I started in 1988 clipping and recording obits that appeared in the Warsaw
Times Union. (See the 1988-1999 database on the Kosciusko Co. GenWeb page).
Prior to 1988 I collected obits on a sporatic basis depending on what the
surname was. Starting now, I will periodically list the index to THIS
collection of obits that I have copies of.  If there is anyone on this list
who sees an name that you would like a copy of the obit , please e-mail me
privately at bminer@waveone.net. Copies are mailed  via snail mail.  Maybe
this will help someone on the list.      Good Luck     Beth

Joseph W Sellers married Elizabeth York in Kosciusko County on 23 Dec
1852. A Mary E Sellers (age 16) married Elizabeth's brother Asa P. York
in Kosciusko County on 20 Jan 1853. A Nathan G Sellers married Susan M
Norris in Kosciusko County on 2 Jul 1854. This appears to be the three
siblings of the John Sellers family, although I have not been able to
find any trace of John or Nancy after the 1850 census. This is further
confirmed by the records of Spring Creek Cemetery in Kosciusko County:
Mary Elizabeth York, wife of A. B., died June 16, 1864, 27-7-2 (implying
a birth date about Nov 14, 1836). One of the adjacent stones was for
Susan Sellers, wife of N. (G.), died Mar 16, 186(2). The stones were
compiled by Lester Binnie in 1971, who reported that they were very hard
to read.

I may have a lead on the John and Nancy Sellers mention as possible father
of Joseph W. Sellers. I have the following in my database which may be the
same family. I don't think I have all the children. The ones in the 1850 census
may be added to this list. The dates for their ages are pretty close to
mine.

1.  John Scott Sellers  (Joseph, Nathaniel Sellers) was born bef. 1800 in
Bourbon Co., KY, and died Abt. 1866 in Kosciusco Co., IN.  He married Nancy
Sellers, born February 4, 1801, Bourbon Co., KY, married December 11, 1817
in Preble Co., OH, daughter of William Sellers and Sarah Crawford.

Children of John Sellers and Nancy Sellers are:
    2   i.  Tally Sellers, born September 13, 1818.
3   ii. Rachael Sellers, born May 20, 1821.
+   4   iii.    Alfred Perry Sellers, born November 28, 1824 in Preble Co.,
OH.
5   iv. John Sellers, born August 23, 1826.

If your Joseph W. is of this line then he would be related to Felix P.
Sellers. Felix was the grandson of William and Sarah named above. John and
Nancy were first cousins, there fathers Joseph and William Sellers were
brothers. I don't have too much on this line. I'm sure there were more
children. It is through Alfred Perry's line that is connected with Sellers
Cabinets of Indiana.

Do you have any more clues on the John and Nancy Sellers you mentioned
before?

Sellars - Krise Nuptials

Thursday afternoon, September 8, 1898 at half past five, Miss Emma Mae Krise
became the bride of Mr. Charles L. Sellars of Mentone, Indiana. The wedding
ceremony took place at the home of the brides mother, Mrs. Elnora Krise, and
was performed by Rev. Van Pelt in the presence of about 70 guests.

At the music of the wedding march, the bridal couple appeared, attended by
Miss Lorena Doane, of Loraine Ohio, and Mrs. Luthar Gaily of Philadelphia, and
stepping through the open door into the yard, and facing the circle of
guests, they earnestly pledged themselves to love, honor, and cherish for life.

The bride's costume was a marvel of snowy purity and simplicity. No ornament
save the queenly grace of the fair girl, whose face was illumined by the
same light of the lovely spirit within, that had endeared her to so many
friends, as quiet and unassuming. She has so successfully filled her place in the
social circle of the school room.

The groom is a gentleman of fine character, who by careful study and
preparation, has secured a responsible position and is quite worthy of his bride.

Among the guests from distance were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cowton, of
Clearspring, Maryland; Mrs. Horne of Whatcom, Washington; and Miss Makepiece of New
Richmond, Ohio.

Mr. and Mrs. Sellars left on Saturday evening at 4 o'clock and will be at
home to their friends after November 1st at Warsaw, Indiana.

=============

ELDER DAVID FAWLEY, of Harrison Township, was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, August 9, 1834. When ten years of age he went with his parents, Jacob and Margaret Fawley, to what was then Crawford County, Ohio, where he was reared to manhood. In 1844, the family came to this county, settling on section 14, Harrison Township, where the father died in 1876 and the mother in 1877. They were the parents of twelve children - David, John, George, Wilson S., Susan, Amanda, Joseph, Aaron, Samuel, Anthony, Jacob and Mary A. The last six are deceased. After a residence in this county of a little more than a year, Mr. David Fawley returned to Ohio, where he was married March 4, 1846, to Rachel Saul, born September 29, 1827, in Fairfield County, that State. She was reared and educated in Seneca County. Her parents were Samuel and Ann Saul, the former a native of Pennsylvania, and the latter of Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Fawley have had twelve children - Mary C., Reuben A., Martha, Annie B., James A., William J., David S., Margaret C., Samuel J., Minerva J., Saloma R. and Rosa E. The five last named are deceased. In, 1848, with his wife and one child, our subject returned to this county, coming with a team and wagon, which required eight days to make the journey. They were obliged to camp out at night, and follow the trails and Government roads. In 1873 he located upon his present farm in Harrison Township, and has been a successful farmer. In 1860 he was ordained to preach, having united with the Old School Baptists, since which time he has been a zealous laborer in the Master's vineyard. He is the present pastor of a church located upon his own farm. Being of an unassuming and retiring nature, he has always refused office, although frequently solicited to be a candidate. He owns 191 acres of good land, with modern buildings, and it is considered one of the best farms in the township. Politically he affiliates with the Democratic party.
