CIVIL WAR

Thomas Sellers enlisted in the 72nd Indiana Infantry, Company C on August
8,1862.He was a private.His residence was Tippecanoe County,Indiana.The
Civil War Database says he transferred out but gives no date.I'll bet he
was wounded because it says he also did service in the "VRC",or Veteran
Reserve Corps. This was a wing of the army made up of mostly wounded men
who were no longer fit for battle but could be put to work doing such
things as garrison duty. You may want to check out the National Archives web site
and see how to get a hold of Mr. Sellers' military or pension records.

I believe that the John and Mary Sellus (Sellers) in the 1870 Marion Co., IN
census is the family you are looking for. See below...

I checked the marriage records at Ancestry.com and came up with two marriage
listings for Elmer Sellers, same date, but one listed his mother. Not sure
if you ever discovered John H. Sellers' first wife's name.

The first showed a marriage of Elmer E. Sellers to Bertha Wall, 10 Nov 1889
found in the County Clerks office.

And then a second record (no bride listed) found in the Sheriff's office...

Name: Elmer Sellers

I'm heading up to the Indy State library next week. I'll see if I can find a
marriage record for John Sellers and Mary Long and any other connections.
