Present day St. Landry Parish is located in south central Louisiana
in an area known as
Acadiana, or Cajun Country. The first
white men arrived in St. Landry, or the Opelousas
District as it was known then, as early as
1690. They were European French fur traders who
had come to trade among the Indians.
