Just a note to let you know that I've added scanned images of the book
"Phelps' Travellers Guide through the United States" to the Special
Collections in the USGenWeb Archives.  It was published in 1850, and has
almost 700 listings of the railroad, stage, canal and steamboat routes
available then.  I've broken the pages down by state, so it will be easy to
find the ones you'd be interested in.  (The index lists the cities in
alphabetical order and references the pages on which they appear.)  Also
included are distances on the rivers and 9 "new" maps that were published
along with the routes.

The URL is
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/special/travellers/travelers.html
(it's a long URL, so you may have to copy and paste).

Anyone wonder what route your ancestors might have taken from one place to
another?  You might be able to figure it out from this new archives
submission.

Happy Hunting!
