FRED WILLIAMS, a former resident of Lamoni, was stabbed to death at St. Joseph on Saturday night, July 1, as the result of a foolish quarrel between himself and a young man by the name of Sollars.
The report of the unfortunate affair reaching Lamoni, states that the young man was engaged in driving a delivery wagon for one of the grocery establishments of that city and on this particular evening the wagon was standing in front of the store and Mr. WILLIAMS was getting ready to drive away with a load of orders that were to be delivered. A few feet away people connected with a neighboring business house, were sprinkling the streets with a hose. Sollars happened along and taking the hose from the hands of the party doing the sprinkling turned the hose on young WILLIAMS.
WILLIAMS took the joke good naturedly, Sollars being a supposed friend, but told him not to do it again. WILLIAMS went into the store for a moment and then came out again to mount his wagon and as he did so Sollars turned the hose on him again. WILLIAMS became angry and running up to Sollars slapped him on the face. Sollars quickly drew a knife and stabbed WILLIAMS in the stomach and then took to his heels. The injured man was hurried to Ensworth hospital where he died on Tuesday of last week. Sollars was captured at Omaha on the same day that WILLIAMS died and was taken to St. Joseph and lodged in jail under a charge of murder in the first degree.
The funeral of the dead man was held Wednesday of last week at St. Joseph. MOSES WILLIAMS, a brother of the young man, resides near Lamoni on a farm.
He attended the funeral. WILLIAMS was about 23 years of age and the sole support of his mother and he bore an excellent reputation. Feeling against the murdered at St. Joseph is high.

Elbert Sollars and Marie Pauline Didlo. Her parents: Nicholas Didlo and Pauline

My husbands family came here
with Joseph Rubidioux. at the time he opened the trading post. Polly Sollars
was one of the famous Sollars and a great-great -greatgrandmother to my husband.

Your Polly must be the sister to my great grandfather. Polly (Pet) Sollars.
Sister to John Elbert Sollars, James H. Sollars, Grace Sollars, Maggie Mae
Sollars. Her father was William Manuel Hayes Sollars. His father was Marshall
L. Sollars. His father John B. Sollars and last I have Sabert Sollars.
Pollly married Robert Hanlin and they had 3 children: Verlene Hanlin, Bernice
Hanlin & Virginia Hanlin. Robert Hanlin had died in a wagon accident.
Polly had a first husband, Edward Grazier. This is all I have. Is this your
line? If so let me know.

My husband's family is descended from Sabert Sollars thru his son Elisha,
his son Elisa Brazeal, his son James A., and his daughter Lena Ruby. According
to land records, Elisha Brazeal Sollars owned property in Wayne Count, Missouri
in the 1890's. He is the 1900 census in Carter County Missouri. His son, James
A Sollars, lived in Wayne County, Missouri. I'd be happy to share what information
I have.
