Subscribers Names: Philip Richey, Abraham Richey, Peter Karns, henry Snider, (unreadable), George Mortimore, Joseph Armstrong, Eve Botenfield, Joseph (unreadable), Adam Shuss, Jacob Shuss, John Snyder, Adam Steer (?), Jacob Snider, Jacob (unreadable), John S. Ritchey, George Harshbarger, Henry Sellers, George Sellers (?), Joseph Sellers, unreadable Roller, John Moore, James Moore, George Moore, Frederick Shofe, Isaac Ritchey, unreadable, Simon Stukey, John Mixel, John Stein, Jacob Snider Jr., unreadable, Simon Stukey junior, William Ritchey, unreadable, (unreadable) Cunce (Kuntz/Koontz), Charles Smouse, Charles Cessna, unreadable, Solomon Deal, Jacob Stoudenour, unreadable, Peter Arnold, Jacob Defenbaugh.

Many of these names, especially Jacob Snider, Henry Harshbarger (Hershberger), Isaac Richey (Ritchey), Shuss's, etc. were the early leaders of the Snake Spring Valley German Baptist Brethren/CoB. Many of the above names are on early maps of the valley as landowners showing the location of their property.

I also have a petition for the placement of the Lower Snake Spring road with the survey markings, but cannot locate it at present. The proposed road began at the Hartley property at the lower end of the Lower Snake Spring Road (C. Paul Ford and Son Implement dealers) and goes to the foot of the mountain where it intersects with the upper road. I'll try to locate that paper and send you if interested.

Hello Virginia,

Frederick's naturalization came from The Center for Archival
Collections at Bowling Green, Ohio. They have all the records for
northwest Ohio. I'm told that in Harrisburg, Pa., they might have an
archival collection so you might try there. Or at the county level in
the court system. This record is from the Court of Common Pleas, but
was filmed and sent to archives.

Hope this helps,

Susan

>Susan, where was this naturalization found?  What State & County?
>I have copies of Petition for Michael Zeller who came to this county

I too am on the Bennett list. I have very little information and can't seem
to make any progress. John Bennett (about 1790-1860) died in Greenfield
Township Bedford County, PA (now part of Blair County). He wrote his will
in 1852 leaving everything to his siblings:

Sarah (born in VA about 1794-1800)
Margaret, born about 1800, married to Michael Pressell (1796-1845)
Nancy (1809-1894) married to Henry Dibert (1817-1893), both born and died
in PA
William born 1791 Lived in Morgan Co, OH
Mary married to a Harbaugh, Lived in Seneca Co, OH
Elizabeth married to a Bresler
Eleanor or Ellen married to Elias Sellers (ckRichlandCo,Oh)

I am a descendant of Nancy Bennett and Henry Dibert. The parents of these
siblings might be Michael Bennett, born about 1760, and Polly Foraker, but
I have no more information.

Thanks!

Is anyone researching the Bennetts of Greenfield Township, Bedford County
(now in Blair County) PA? I have the will of John Bennett who died 18 Jun
1860. The will names his siblings - Sarah Bennett; Margaret Pressell; Nancy
Dibert 1809-1894 (my great great grandmother); William Bennett of Morgan
  County, OH; Mary Harbaugh of Seneca County, OH; Elizabeth Bresler (dec'd);
Elenor Sellers. I think their parents were probably Henry and Mary Bennett who
are buried in the Pressell Cemetery. No children are mentioned in John Bennett's
will, so I don't know if he ever married. I am having a lot of trouble getting
started with my research. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sellers, Augustus

Posted By: Carol Eddleman <Send E-Mail>
Date: February 13 2003

Philip Henry Sellers was born in 1704 at Weinheim, Germany. This date is obtained from the records of Indian Creek church, Franconia township, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, where it is stated he died in 1769, aged sixty-five years. Philip H. spelled his name Soller, but the English form is invariably Sellers. His arrival in Pennsylvania is recorded in "Colonial Records of Pennsylvania," vol. iii., p. 332, September 11, 1728, a number of Palatines with their families, about ninety, immigrated in the ship, "James Goodwill," David Crocket, master, from Rotterdam, last from Deal, whence she sailed June 15. The name of Philip Heinrich Sellers appears in the list. He was married before coming to Pennsylvania, the Christian name of his wife being Catharina, Several of their children were born in Germany. After spending a short time in Philadelphia he purchased a tract in Bucks county on the north branch of the Perkiomen. He died in 1769 and is buried in the graveyard of Indian Creek church, Franconia, Bucks county, Pennsylvania. He was survived by his wife, Catharina, who died in 1773. Both their wills are on file in Philadelphia. Children: Philip, Leonard, Philip Henry, John, Paul, Peter, Jacob, Elizabeth, Magdalena and Margaret. It is from one of these sons that William U. Sellers descends, probably through Jacob, who settled first in Juniata, now Mifflin county, descendants settling later in Bedford county. Little is known of the grandfather further than he was a wheelwright, married, and died in Bedford county, leaving issue.

(II) Augustus Sellers was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania. He worked on the home farm, later learning the cooper's trade which he followed until enlisting as a soldier in the civil war. He was a private of One Hundred and Forty-second Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and served three years and six months. He saw hard service with the Army of the Potomac and fought at Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg and many other battles and skirmishes. After the war he returned to Pennsylvania and engaged in the manufacture of lumber. He now lives on a small farm at Ursina, Pennsylvania, and does a general teaming business. He is a Democrat, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He married Sarah, daughter of William Lenhart, a crippled shoemaker, who gave two of his sons to his country. Others of his sons enlisted, but two were killed in battle, the others returning in safety. She is a member of the Methodist Eplscopal church. Children of Augustus Sellers: William U., of whom further; Jennie E., resides at home; Lee, a hotel keeper at Confluence. Their first born, a daughter, died in infancy.

(III) William U., eldest son of Augustus Sellers, was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, November 8, 1869. He was educated in the public schools of Ursina, and he entered the employ of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad as a boy. In 1884 he entered the train service and has passed through several grades of service, now being a freight conductor. Since entering the train service he has made his home in Conneilsville. He is a member of the Order of Railway Conductors, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of the Maccabees. He is a Democrat, and an attendant of the Methodist Episcopal church, of which his wife is a member.

He married, June 10, 1896, Emma Brant, born at Bedford Mills, Bedford county, Pennsylvania, daughter of John and Ella Brant. Children: Ruth Mae, born July 24, 1898; Frank H., October 11, 1902; Charles Samuel, November 14, 1904; Martha Virginia, August 18, 1910.
