find his birth place . Or how about an OBIT on him or amanda?
WILSON OR MARY SELLERS could have some cemetery info , maybe in LOGAN
CO, OK
YOU'RE DOING good - ADVISE, or SEND COPY of any CONTACT. Thanks, marie, iowa
Marie , I don't know how to thank you. I wish that you could
have seen my grandmother's face when I
showed her the e-mail from you with her
grandfather/grandmothers names on it. She will be 93 years
old
Nov. 23. She knew her grandfather and her grandmother
Monroe and Amanda. My entire family
just went wild Sunday when I showed them. However,
I told
them that I could not take credit for anything, that
you
had responded immediately to my cry for help.
We just do
not have anyone who
could tell me if Wilson had a middle name. There are
so
many unanswered questions that I know that I
can never have or know the answers to. I noticed that
my
great-great aunt's birth year was the same as
my great-grandmother's. The social security death index
listed Jesse Mae's d.o.b. as 1884.
Now Marie, How do I go about learning how many children
Wilson and Mary had and how would
I learn or gather any information about her? Since
I know
for a fact that Wilson was born in slavery
how can or do I gather more information about him? Lots of
questions. How do I piece the pieces
together. How do I check with the county of Shawnee
in
Kansas to gain farther knowledge?
I just learned from my mother that Monroe Sellers is buried
in the Evansville cemetery south of
Meridian , Ok. in Logan county . Therefore, I think that
Wilson would be there also. My mother also
told me that there are Sellers buried at Union Hill
cemetery , near Meridian , Ok..
The Arizona family will host the Family Reunion 2001 in
August I am trying to piece together the family
tree, with your help I am on my way, thank you once again..
Oh , for a little humor my son informed me yesterday
that
I should not e-mail him or anyone else in all capitals I
laughed, but as you can see I did
as he suggested.
I AM GOING to give you some url's, addresses to web pages, where
you
should be able to search for info or addresses. You should be able
to
just click on these HiLited names, and Go. Use your top left BACK
buttom
key to return. I also have had very good help with the County
Genealogy
societies, sometimes, located in the libraries. But, we get use
to this
info being on line and we don't like to write the letter and wait
a
week! But , usually they have the census, obits, funeral records
in
that county!
TRY THESE =
http://www.usgenweb.com/statelinkstext.html
http://www.tngenweb.org/tnlinks.htm
http://www.tngenweb.org/tnlinks.htm#ethnic
WHEN you click on a state to go to, SOMETIMES, the First page will
list
Many state projects, that are NOT listed on the county pages.
ANY of our SELLERS have info on SELLERS SLAVES info? SEND a copy to
both of us.
Thanks, marie, iowa

Hi Marie, have not heard from you in a while. This is inFrom:
regards to Wilson Sellers and son Monroe of
TN. . I have not been able to locate them in Tn., in the
1860, 1870, 1850,. Where do I go from here?
I know from oral history that they did live at one time in
Tn.. I am visiting the Family History Center in
Mesa, Arizona so I am hoping that something will turn up
soon. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
I am still having fun doing this research. Let me know
what you think. Thanks , Pat Crawford
Hi Marie, it has been quite awhile since I have been in
touch, trust that you are doing well. I wanted you
to know that I finally was able to locate Wilson Sellers ,
wife Mary and son Peter in DeKalbe
Co. Tn.,
not in Ratherford. Last name spelled with the letter
Cellers. I am sure you can imagined how elated I
was today when that occurred. Because you had given me my
first push I wanted to share the good news
with you. My next big task is now to find out who he slave
master was. That , I am sure will take as
long as it did to locate Wilson in the 1870 Census. Thanks
as Always Pat Crawford
NOW, you have probably read our DEKALB CO, TN page=
http://showcase.netins.net/web/sellerfamily/tndekalb.htm
ON there you will find extraction of will =
1861 WILL of MATHEW SELLAR =1861/wb-b/84
dated 1857, codicil 1860=(probated=?)
wife, CHARLOTTA
children=
MARY BRASWELL
WILLIAM
DENNIS/DENICE
DENNIAM/DEMARIS SMITH
CHARITY KITHART
SANSADA WILLIAMS
OTHER children with issue, deceased by 1857 and disinherited.
MANY slaves
LAND
(NO probate papers?msh)
====================================
IF ANYONE has COPY of ORIGINAL = Please SEND
or you can ORDER and ask for all probate papers, etc.
SOMETIMES , IT lists the slaves names. Sounds good possibility!
NOW, there are also others listed on the 1870 census that could be
his brothers/sisters?
I believe? 1870 was the first census, slaves, indians, colored etc
were listed
(this is not the Exact/Correct wording) But, maybe it will tell
you what I mean.
THANKS for sharing, marie, iowa
PAT, Thanks. Am sending thru the SELLERS list as someone may know better how to study slaves, etc.
MY first thought would be to get a copy of ALL probate or estate records
on this MATHEW SELLERS born ca 1783 will of
1860 DEKALB CO, TN. somewhere on that page it shows he had ELEVEN SLAVES.
The estate papers MAY show that a certain slave went to so and so.
ON that DEKALB CO, TN page I don't think it lists ANY OTHER SELLERS
with SLAVES?
http://showcase.netins.net/web/sellerfamily/tndekalb.htm
There may also be something on the DEKALB CO, TN usgenweb page.
ONCE in a while you'll find a slave schedule or census = you'll have
to see if available for that area in 1850/55 etc.
ALSO, I would order the civil war pension record for MONROE SELLERS.
May be birth info, etc.
THANKS for sharing, marie, iowa

Hi Marie, I spoke with the OK. Dept. Of Libraries/Archives
and they had
nothing on Monroe Hays
or Sellers , they stated that he was a Union soldier
and that he was
paid by the Fed. Govt. . Ok so I
decided to try the Ok Historical Society, same story and I was told
my
only hope would be the NARA
I sent away for the records in May and it takes forever.
I also had a
response from the TN. Civil War
index no luck there. Now I received another response
from the Index to
the compiled Service Records
of volunteer Union Soldiers Who served with U.S. Colored Troops.
Microcopy #589. Microfilm
Two Monroe Hayes were found
(1) Monroe Hayes Co. D, 1 US Col'd Heavy Infantry
(2) Monroe Hayes Co. G. 47 US Col'd Infantry
The index did not give a state for the soldiers.
Could they be one of the same and how would I obtain the microfilm?
What do you think?
Also you would be proud of me , I contacted the DeKalb co . Courthouse
for Matthew's Will . I am
learning. Thanks as always just wanted to let you and ask
question to.
(smile) . Will talk to you later.
Pat

RICHARD, thanks for your comments and input. I know PAT will appreciate
the
additional info. (Civil War
Page)
http://members.aol.com/jweaver303/tn/5tncavus.htm (this could be his
unit,msh)
this was just a fast look and didn't see much on this unit.
Then if you use your Back button on the above link, it takes you to
the diff
named units. Couldn't find a roster, but, it was a quick look.
Maybe PAT will order this civil war file and report the contents. He
may Not
have been listed as colored? don't think the other census show him
as
colored. don't remember.
BUT, his father could have been a slave of our MATHEW SELLERS in DeKalb
Co,
Tn in 1850.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. marie, iowa
Hi, how are you? I received my will today and have been
going over it. I do believe that I found (Munroe)
Monroe Sellers willed to his daughter Canzada Williams.
I
may have found Mary not sure but no Wilson and no younger
son Peter. However, I will keep working with it.
If you
have any suggestions please feel
to make them at any time as always I need them.
I found that Matthew willed a Mary to his daughter Charity
and he willed a Mary C it seems like to his son
William
Sellers. What do you think? Thanks Pat

Monroe married Amanda Rule and their youngest son born in
Ok. Dec. 1890 was named Pete Frank Sellers. I have been
told that the Pete that was born in Tn. died in Tn. and
Wilson and family left Tn.
after his death and migrated to Ks..
They may have lived
in some other state before reaching Ks. I have no idea.
The older grandchildren of Monroe Sellers are very excited
that I am attempting to pull together
our family history for they knew their grandfather very
well. Pat
Yes, Marie I have Wilson in 1870 but what I do not have is
Wilson at the same
time as Monroe in 1860
or even before, that is what I meant. I thought that if
I could find Monroe
as I did in Matthew Sellers Will, that I would
automatically find his mother
and father. That is why I asked the question a while
back
was Wilson's family always with the Sellers because they all left
or most left
Tn. as a whole family ,except
for young Pete Sellers and it has been passed down through
the years that he (
Pete) was killed by the
Night Riders and that was why Wilson decided to take his family
and leave
during the 1870's and move
to Kansas. When ever I run into a brick wall with one of the
Sellers I start
working on another hoping to
gain information in some other form. I need to tell you that
I was able to find
Monroe Sellers at age 20
leaving in Nashville and married to one Delia Ann Page
March 10, 1865. He
was in the Civil War
at that time . I called about getting a copy and the
information that I gave
them as well as the dob matched
up, so I ordered it. I always thought that Amanda Rule Sellers
was he only
spouse. So one can learn an
awful lot from old records ( smile). My
cousin from Ok. called me over the
weekend to tell me that she and her husband had attended his
family reunion in
Maryland recently and that there was another
family reunion going on and they were Sellars out of NC.
They had no family
history written up shen went in and talked with them. I told
her that the
spelling of a name means absolutely nothing, and I have learned
and was told that from the start. They were African
Americans , I forgot to
add that. She is going to
mail me a copy of the material that she received from them.
Take care and as
always I appreciate you.
I can not thank you enough for typing that will up for me.
Pat
A list of SLAVES before we STARTED listing them to cenus AFTER 1860?
SOME states had a few SLAVES CENSUS ca 1855 = DID TN?
A LIST OF SLAVES granted on ANYONE else's WILLS=
WE DO NOT have this MATHEW SELLERS Proven to an exact county/state,
so a connection to THIS family COULD help ALL of us.
BUT, Wilson was only born 1830 and we had already been here 30 yrs,
so don't know,
UNLESS a family connection =
WORTH checking out!
IF the HAYS family of Slaves started with this Family EARLIER?
BUT, many lists I have seen, Only list First Names.
CHECK the HAYS FAMILY history/genealogy on line for this area?

Seasoning greetings Marie, just wanted to say hello and
hope that all is well. My grandmother the granddaughter of
Monroe H. Sellers celebrated her 94th birthday Nov. 23rd.
She has not been very well but we are just so grateful to
have her with us just a little while longer. Still alert
and communicate well with others. Enjoy, Pat Crawford,
Arizona

Thank you for remembering ALL of our SELLERS that shared TN info
