Washington,ONE TIME COUNTY SEAT OF mASON cO,kY was built at Wm Wood and Arthur Fox's fort, near Simon Kenton's. Baptist Rev Wm Wood was last from Washington Co,Pa's Pidgeon Creek.
DATES OF SETTLEMENT FROM VIRGINIA CERTIFICATES, WASHINTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA by Raymond M. Bell Washington and Jefferson College "What is now Washington County was formed in 1781. Before that time the territory was claimed by both Pennsylvania and Virginia...Pennsylvania started giving land grants in 1769. This was Cumberland County until 1771 when it became a part of Bedford County. In 1773 it became a part of Westmoreland County." "On the other hand Virginia claimed this first as a part of Augusta County and after 1776 northern Washington County was called Yohogania County; the southwestern part, Monongalia County. During the Revolution Pennsylvania stopped giving land grants. The dispute between Virginia and Pennsylvania was settled with the understanding that Virginia could issue certificates to her settlers which would be honored by Pennsylvania." It goes on to list some of the early settlers who applied for Virginia certificates in Pennsylvania.

have some "Abstracts of Wills of Washington County, Registered At Little

Washington County. Hear is what I found.--"John Book, dated April 27.1779,
proved June 10, 1786; wife Margaret; children, Jacob (oldest ), Michael
(youngest, not yet 16 years old), George and other not named; executors,
son Jacob and son in law John Huffman; witnesses, Benjamin Frye, George Moyers,
Martin Swegart and Samuel Swegart. 1,pg 63.-- I also have a Will written up
May 30, 1787, and proved 1788 that one of the witnesses for this Will was,
a Henry Huffman. You may do with this information as you see fit.
