Jefferson County, Tennessee, 1836 Civil Districts & Tax List:
Dist 1 (Northwestern edge, borders Sevier):
Samuel Sellars, John Sellars
Dist. 8 (Slightly northeast of Dist. 1, corners join): William Sellars,
Nathan Sellars
Dist. 9 (North central; northern edge bordered by Holston River,
Grainger
Co): John W. Sellars
This is from an 1836 map. Jefferson seems to include area that now
encompasses Hamblen County (?). (Y'all excuse me. I'm still learning
my
Tennessee history.)
Does anyone know the relationship of these Sellars? Interested in
Samuel
Sellars in Dist. 1. Is he the one with wife named Eleanor?
Can anyone claim
him? Is he possibly the one who was in the Monroe County census
in 1830? He
may not have actually been living here but land ownership would
put him on
the tax list. Any help appreciated in identifying these Sellars/Sellers.
Thanks,
Judy

Subject: Re: [HOLBERT] Newman/Ellison
Can anyone send me the Newman and Ellison line? I would exspecially
like
to
find out more information on the two lines once they came to Jefferson
County, TN.
Thank you Bev for the 1840 Jefferson County Census. I have been
trying to
put together the families living around the Holberts in Jefferson County.
So
far the Holberts have married into all the families listed as neighbors
on
the 1840 census.
I have that Mary (Polly) Sellers married John Ellison and then married
Micajah Hall. They had a son Moses Hall. Does anyone know
if this is the
same Moses Hall listed as age between 50-60 on the 1840 Jefferson County
Census living next door to Irvin(Ervin) D. Holbert and family?

Hi Paula -
Do you happen to know the names of other children from this union?
I'm
also
looking for information on the Sellers family in Jefferson Co.,
particularly
William F. Sellers (ca. 1861-1928) and Elizabeth (Bradshaw?) Sellers
(ca.
1862-1907). Their children were Walter Bert (my great-grandfather),
Martha,
Enoch, Dora, and maybe Jessie Mae. Would love to hear from anyone
with
information on this family. Hope we can make a connection Paula.
Elizabeth Dempsey
Hope this might help someone out there in web. land.
