A cousin got this email (and
she has asked the sender for
any further information he may have):
>Do you know if any of your Sellers were at Steward's Mill ,

I was raised in Streetman and >now live in Onalaska, WI. Reason
I ask is, James Sellers of Simpson Co., >MS.

I'm not sure how this translates into a descendent of James
Sellers, but hope someone can use the wife's name and parents. And
maybe this guy will have some other info.

Peter E. Hubbard (1848/9-1878) is buried in Stewards Mill Cemetery. He
was married to Kizzah Sellers. Does anyone know where he was born or
who his parents were? Thanks!

[TXFREEST] 1890 Meningitis Outbreak
I have a photocopy of an article from "The Fairfield Recorder."
There are no
dates but it is from that epidemic. Excerpts follow:
Death's Sad Work
A Fatal Epidemic Visits Our Town and Killed Nearly All it Attacked
Christmas Week a Week of Gloom and Sadness
Many Homes Mourn the Death of a Loved One
The Saddest Chapter Ever Recorded in the History of the Town
The Death Roll
...The following is the list of those who died in the short time of about aweek and a half. We give them as nearly as we can in the order in which theydied.
James Hubbard, aged about 16, nephew of Mr. J. D. Sellers, of Ward Prairie
Mrs.Odom, wife of Mr. F. B. Odom of Ward Prairie
Mrs. Whitaker, wife of Mr. Henry Whitaker, of Stewards Mill. Also infant
of Mrs. Whitaker. Mrs. W. was a sister of Mrs. Odom
The original of this article was saved in the "Whitaker Family Bible" because of the deaths of Charity Sellers Whitaker and her child.

In an attempt to identify everyone buried in Stewards Mill Cemetery, Freestone Co., TX, information is needed on the following:
Ann Sellers (1839 MS -1923)
Ruthie J. Sellers (ca. 1872 MS)
Joanne Sellers (ca. 1874 - August 1888 TX)
Where were they in 1880? Who was the husband/father? Were they related to Mary Margaret Speed Sellers (1825 SC - 1888 TX) & widow of James W. Sellers, buried in that cemetery?
Joanne has a brief death notice in "The Fairfield Recorder" in 1888 saying she is the daughter of Mrs. Ann Sellers. Her father must have already been dead by then. Joanne's grave is not marked.
Ruthie J. Sellers married Thomas Traylor in 1888 in Freestone Co., TX. Ann lives with them in 1900, 1910, & 1920 censuses and reports that she had 5 children but only 1 (Ruthie) living.
I know of no personal connection to this family, although I am related to other Sellers buried in that cemetery.
Thanks!
