We have a John Sellers missing that is the supposed brother to James
Sellers of Chatham Co., NC and Robert Sellers, Sr. of Burke Co.,
NC.
Possibly your wife is descended from this brother John. We
don't know
where he lived and possibly he was in Nash Co., NC.
Anyone out there know about this John Sellers of Nash Co., NC in 1800>

Georgia;
Basically what I have given you is all there is on her folks. I
have noted
the other Sellers in Maury County over the years and have never
made a
connection. If there is a connection I feel it must be in NC. Nash
County
is the recurring place her folks seem to be from. No, I have
not come
across a Young or Hardy Sellers in her line.

Most of

descendants of James Sellers that died in Chatham Co., NC circa

I have been following the conversation about Lafayette Sellers with
great
interest. I have a family tree handed down to me from my grandfather's
brother, Robert Henry Sellers which show 2 LaFayette Sellers. Neither
seem
to fit your's exactly. They are on the James, brother of John and
Robert
line. Georgia, I have that Young Sellers is the son of that James
and also
James had sons LaFayette,Francis, Harry, Carrol, Alfred, Alvis,
Jackson,
Hardy or Harvey( I can't tell which because of a fold in the paper)Isaac,
John, James, and Robert.Do we agree with that?
The other LaFayette I show to be the son of Carrol, who was the son
of the
same James that is the father of all those boys in the above paragraph.
That LAFayette has brothers Jeff Davis, Wesley, and Robert. That may
not be
very clear. Please ask me to clarify if need be. Problem is that
I do not
have dates or places for these names, and no female names, although
there
must have been some. The only females showing are my graandfather's
two
sisters,Rosa and Lilly.
Georgia you asked some time ago if I have family treemaker. I do
not. I
have
a friend who does. She said she would be glad to receive anything
for me.
Just make sure it has my name on the subject line. Thanks to all
of you out
there who are trying to match up all these Sellers.
Okay, you've twisted my arm ;-) I'll dig the file out. Here
goes maybe
this will get things "straight" in my mind as well.
>From my "notes"
Listed 1800 census, Nash County, NC (Nash came out of Edgecomb co.
in 1777)
Sellers, James
Sellers, Arthur
Sellers, John
Sellers, Joseph
James Sellers b. 1759 (from LDS church records on "net") in Nash
(then
Edgecomb) County, NC. d. 20 Dec 1843 in Grainger County, TN.
Spouse: 1.
Patience ? 2. Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson whom he married March 20,
1810.
Children: Jane, Polly, Elizabeth, Ebenezer H., Serena S. "Sarah",
James b.
1798 in Nash County, NC, m. 1845 in Maury County, TN to "Sarah".
John b. 12
Aug 1802 in either NC or TN. Bestsy is NOT the mother of James and
John.
Pg 137, Vol 2 of "Maury County Cousins" states that James Sellers
bought a
portion of Robert Sellers estate, for which estate Luke Sellers
is the
administrator.
Pg 144 James Cathey, guardian of Ebenezer and Serena Sellers, minor
heirs
of John Sellers, makes report, 20 April 1829. This suggests that
Ebenezer
and Serena were actually the grandchildren of James Sellers, unless
John
named his children after his brother and sister.
Pg 186 Serena Sellers, minor heir of John Sellers, deceased 2 Nov
1831,
report by James Cathey.
Pg 274 John Sellers, court orders in Nov 1815 that he (his body)
be let to
the lowest bidder (for burial). Lowest bid 23 Dec 1815 by Robert
Sellers.
Robert submits burying bill after keeping John for 2 months and
25 days (I
wonder how). This cannot be my John Sellers as he is alive
in 1820 for the
census!
Pg 188, Maury County TN Will Books. James Sellers died without
a will and
his estate probated in 1824. He owned 21 negro slaves.
James and John Sellers are listed in the 1820 census in Maury county,
however, their last name is spelled "Selers" by the census taker.
Marriage
info comes from "Marriages of Maury County, Tennessee 1808 - 1852,
page 1.
ROBERT SELLERS, Justice of the Peace for Maury County, married James
and
Betsy. Sarah Sellers, an alias for Serena S. Sellers, recorded
her will in
1838 Will Book #Y-304 in Maury County.
It is thought that James Sellers was a Revolutionary soldier.
In the following census, the surname is spelled Sellars.
Pg 211, 1850 census Lewis County, TN (a part of Lewis county was
carved
from Maury during its formation in 1843). JAMES SELLERS, aged
52, farmer,
b. NC, owned 500 acres. Wife Sarah aged 31 b. TN. Children (assumed,
living
in his household): *LUKE B. SELLERS aged 26, farmer, b. TN
and his wife
Lucy aged 24. Their son James Sellers aged 4 born in TN.
*Luke is listed in 1849 (census?) in Middle district of Lewis County
owning
200 acres (book 5 oc, p. 635, g # 20 821.
Pg 361, 1850 census Lewis County, TN. JOHN SELLERS aged 50
b. VA.
Elizabeth aged 30 b. NC (believed to be Elizabeth Brock with a marriage
date of 24 Apr 1817 in Grainger County, TN). JAMES SELLERS 20, b.
NC.
Margaret Sellers (wife?) aged 18 b. TN. Sarah Sellers aged 18 b.
TN.
Caroline aged 13 b. TN. Mary E. Sellers aged 11 b. TN. William Sellers
aged
6 b. TN. Rebecca aged 7/12 b. TN.
JOHN SELLERS is listed in "Tennessee Land Grants" published 1997
by Byron
Sistler and Assoc. Vol 5-52 pg 15 as residing in Maury County in
1821 and
owning 160 acres in G district book 5, pg 416 g# 15994.
I am going to stop here and send this, then resume with another message.

My own Cross family served on both sides during the war. The ones
from East
Tennessee splitting and serving on both while those from KY opted
for the
Union. On my Moss side, Corporal Robert B. Moss served in the 9th

LEWIS CO, TENN (1843 from Hickman, MAURY, Wayne,

From its establishment until 1852 Lewis County included a
sizeable portion of Maury County.
All of Maury County west of Big Bigby Creek was
included in Lewis county during this period. In 1852
Maury County pettititioned the Courts, maintaining that the
countyhad been cut to less than its minimum constitutional limits.
The Court decision was in favor of Maury County, and the county
line was re-run,becomong essentially as it is today.
For this reason Maury County families residing
in the western part of the county will be found in the 1850

THIS family of JOHN and ELEANOR appears to be in GRAINGER CO, TN before 1830
THIS is where James SELLERS 1759/1843 Rev War, enlisted in
1770's CHATHAM CO, NC
lived in BURKE CO, NC and Came to Grainger
Co, Tn ca 1812
One son is JAMES SELLERS BORN 1792 nc
and when JAMES SELLERS 1759 died in 1843, he had 3 heirs =No Wife,
son James, probably a sister Sarah born 1800 and another child
Could be Rebecca Sellers Jackson born ?
Or could possibly be the John SELLERS born 1800 NC married Eleanor.
If a Chandler, Believe her family was here in Grainger early
also.
SOME of our CHATHAM CO, NC SELLERS were in Orange Co, NC in 1755's
AND we do have SELLERS in Nash Co, NC = No wills to Prove, but land deeds kinda linking families = John Sellers born bef 1755 and his youngest son in 1800 is born 1784/1790
HOPE I have explained Why it is So important to trace this Nash Co, NC birth, etc = where is our source of proof? Please Send.
MANY of our SELLERS in MAURY CO, TN , where your James L. SELLERS
born 1830 nc
is listed on 1860 census, came from Chatham Co, NC also.
SO, it is very important to work on this links.
I believe I sent you our page numbers on these counties - use, study,
