Angeline Doke Sellers, her mother.  Sherri helped me identify many of the
pix that I have and that was wonderful.

The front on this says:  M L Sellers.  On the back it says:  slip the card
out an see the old girl.  Jn A. Sellers.  This must be Angelina and
grandbaby.  I had never looked at these out of the case so has been a real
revelation.  I have to chuckle because from the census you sent it appears
she had a different name each time the census happened.  Anglina, Annie &
Mariah.  Mariah must be her middle name as the bible says Angelina M.

Angelina was my gggma Orra's only sister.

You have opened up a whole new line for me and I really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Here it is again without the oval frame.  On the back it says:  J. A.
Sellers  19yrs Old
Aug 3 1887 which is the date the picture was taken I would imagine.  James
A. was 11 in 1870 according to what I read on the sheets you sent so this
has to be James.

Got you a little excited, Huh!  Are these Sellers part of your family?  I
have only been at this about a month trying to get all this "stuff", and
there are boxes so who knows what I will find, archived and then decided to
get it on the computer.  What a wonderful thing the internet is.  Have tied
Angelina's mother Lucretia Chaney Doke in with 2 others that had done
segments of the history back to England.  I wouldn't even know where to
start to do something like that.

I have more pictures but they are not marked so don't know who they are
however they are in the same album.  Most of these are tintypes I think they
called them.

Now lets see if Angelina or Annie or Mariah or Mary, whatever she wants to
call herself today likes flying in cyberspace.

I think this is the last pix that I have a positive ID for.  This has been
so much fun.

You do whatever you want.  Just glad I can be a small part of someones Heritage.

Somewhere in my digging there was mention of half-sister (brother).  Can't
find it right now but am wondering in A.B. Hyatt's wife Elizabeth could have
been married previously to a Sellers or maybe Martin is a brother.  Awfully
close knit for just casual acquaintances.  Time will tell.

Have Fun,

Hi Marie,

Sorry!! I've been so busy that I stuck this in my Lookup file. I thought I
had answered, but as busy as I've been (I'm a grad student at our local
college) I wouldn't be surprised if I simply forgot about it.  Really didn't
mean to!!

Anyway, here's the information:

1840 Coles county:

        James Doke
                Males: 20-30 = 1
                       60-70 = 1
                Females: 60-70 = 1

Is it possible this James and his wife could have died in Coles county? If
you think they did, I'll check for a cemetery record.

1850 Edgar County:
1262 - Doke, James M. - 35 - IN - Martin - farm - 2200
             Lucretia - 22 - KY - Pulaski
             Orra E.(f) - 10 - IL - Edgar
             Nelson J. -  8 - IL - Edgar
             Angeline -  6 - IL - Edgar
             Oscar -  2 - IL - Edgar
Taylor, Mary E. - 22 - IL - Edgar  [no occupation listed, but could
have been a servant]

This looks to be his second marriage, as Lucretia would have been too young
to have been the mother of all but Oscar.

If you know they died in Edgar county, I would you suggest you write to the
Edgar County Genealogical Society. They have a master list (not yet
published) of all the cemeteries and could do a look-up for you. I'd send a
SASE when
you send your request. However, if you think they died in Coles county, let
me know and I'll check further.

As for the 1850 census, could the "Ind Prec" be Indiana?  I don't know if
there is a Coles or Cole county in Indiana, but it would be worth checking
into if that would help you locate the family.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Again, I'm sorry for the delay in writing back. I really didn't mean to
take so long in getting back to you.

Linda

WANDA - haven't written, cause I don't know anything new-
still sitting here trying to get my SONS time to make pictures smaller
and post - they are precious!
He did come out and find that we had to download a newer program to make
smaller than the one I had on my machine-
I have an unmarried 41 yr old son - teaches computer classes and nite
classes and being unmarried , you can quess his time schedule - NEXT
WEEK, i am sure -
BUT, I did read 1900/1920 COLORADO index on SELLERS (NO soundex for
1910, which we could read the county info IF we find the county )
NO JAMES A SELLERS -
I pulled out the 1910 TEXAS census to read - seems I did read, but maybe
just for JOHN L. SELLERS - will reread -
I'm not too sure I maybe should read 1910/20 OREGON!
DON't believe any DOKE/SELLERS conection until MO-
have NOT found MARTIN SELLERS yet (so many spellings on census!)
hope we receive that civil war file - might be an answer!
I did go back to COLES/EDGAR CO, ILL and you probably have this, I
wasn't going to send, but,=

----------------
I don't usually get back in touch, until NEW info - but, since I have
the  files of pictures on my screen, I think of you more often!
I many times do post info to the counties, I am working on or have read-
at the SELLERS FAMILY GENEALOGY PAGE= (not FANCY, just info)

This is my group.  Lucretia was born in 1822 so they must have put the year
instead of her age.  There is another son John born in 1853.  Lucretia &
James were married in Cole Cnty, ILL. she being the daughter of Jackson Chaney.

I have subscribed to the list and am saving all postings there for future
research.  The info has come in so fast on many of my lines that have not
been able to keep up with my own postings.  Thank you for thinking of me and
will certainly let you know when & if I find anything.

Better days coming,

WANDA, I think I kinda got lost on the HYATTS-

HAYWOOD CO, NC =ABLE B. HYATT married 8-13-1821 Eliza DOBSON
and other HYATT marriages from 1808 to 1842 if you want=
EDWARD G.married 10-15-1842 Nancy E. HOWELL
ELISHA
ELISHA MARRIED 7-27-1808 Rosanah YOUNG
UTE
WM
I DON'T think I ever found him on 1850 census?
9-23-1845 BARRY CO, MO = A.B.HYATT married Eliz HAMILTON

1850 NEWTON CO, MO=
Nancy Hyatt 27NC
John P. Hyatt 23NC
living with GEO A. WAGES 29sc
HANNAH 25NC
MARY 2AL
JOEL 6/12 MO

BENJ HYATT 27NC
lucinda 24 tn
william 5 mo
Malvina 3mo
Nathaniel 2mo

G.W. HYATT 31 NC
MARY 35 MO
CATHERINE 9nc
ELIZ 7 tn
BEDNEGO 6M tn
DIDANG? 4f tn
SUSAN 2 mo
HANNAH 7/12 MO

SO, I was kinda thinking they were ALL his kids-
I only posted SELLERS when I read 1850 HAYWOOD CO, NC
I have the index - no A.B.HYATT-
He must be here in MO, if these are his kids?
don't see on the index!

I'll work on SELLERS - some more - and post to the pages-
MOST of the info sent to the SELLERS board, is on some of the SELLERS
pages - go to the index and probably under the state/county/census,etc-
BEST WISHES, marie, iowa

You mentioned about the 1850 Coles county listing for the Doke family. I
didn't realize at the time I sent the last note that the township would be
Independence, which is known today as East Oakland township.  I checked for
cemetery  records on and found the following:

East Oakland Twp.
Shields Cemetery (Old Part)

James Doke - 4 Mar 1842 - 60y - b in Carolina
Unice, wife - 17 Sep 1844 - 55y - located 1830 - b in Carolina
John, son - 8 Oct 1854 - 1y

Shields Cemetery is located right on the border between Coles county and
Edgar county.  This would explain why they are not always found in Coles.
I'm not sure if Shield Cemetery has a new part in the Edgar county side,
but I am willing to find out for you if you'd like.  I'd like to read the
cemetery anyway.

Hi Marie,

Am still on the hospital/nursing home circuit with mother and friday daddy

Will take a looksee right now.

Thank you so much,
