Marie, the bible transcript I sent does show Jan 24, 1911, pretty
clearly, but note the placement of that date.
Between Jul 4, 1799 and 23, Nov 1802. All the dates are in chronological
order except this one.

What we have is a copy Frances made from a copy that Oliver Hevey made
from the bible. Plenty of room for an error. For lack of the bible I
would assume that the 1801 date is probably correct as shown in the
other records.

More of letter dated March 27, 1980 from Brownie Sellers:

George W Sellers and Eliza Childress Sellers had five children, the
oldest of whom was your (W C Trott) great grandmother whom you referred
to as Loretta Sellers.  I never knew her name was Loretta  Before.  It
may have been her middle name.  I always heard her name was Frances (it
was Frances Loretta).  She married Dr. Buchanan first and J W Johnson
second.  There were two other girls, Mary and America, who died Young.
One of them married a Dunlap and died at the birth of her first child
and the other one married the same man later and died at the birth of
her first child.  There were two boys, Mark and my grandfather, Henry
Sellers.  Mark died Young. My grandfather, Henry Sellers, was born
August 1, 1838 and died January 11, 1915.  During the Civil War he
served in the Confederate Army under General Nathan Bed ford Forest.

My grandfather, Henry O Sellers, married Susan Adeline Moore in October
of 1859 shortly before the John Brown Raid on Harpers Ferry.  Their
children were: Eliza, born August 13, 1860 and died March 24, 1941:
William Henry, born February 26, 1862 and died February 17, 1923: Robert
Sellers who was born during the Civil War and lived one month:  Mary
Belle Sellers, born October 15, 1866.  In 1895 she was married tao
Charlie Abernathy who died in 1896.  She died on February 12, 1955.
Mark Sellers was born in the fall of 1873 and died March 17, 1888.  Owen
Brown Sellers, my father, was born March 5, 1870 and died July 29,
1944.  Sarah Frances Sellers was born February 17, 1879 and died March
19, 1963.

William Henry Sellers married Eunice Compton in the fall of 1911 and
Owen Brown Sellers married Nettie  Compton, my mother, about a month
later.  William Henry and Eunice had no children.  Owen and Nettie had
four children of whom I, Brownie, am the oldest.  I was born February
26, 1913.  Henry, the second one, was born on October 4, 1914: Suzanne,
the third one, was born on September 19, 1918.  Mary Katherine, the
fourth and last one, was born on March 29, 1921. (Marriages and
descendants of the above children are given in the letter but omitted
here.)

I have asked before and am sure Marie (you certainly do a good job and I
thank very much) would have notified me anything had developed but here
goes again:

My  George W SELLERS (how many were there?) as noted in Giles County TN
probate records of 1846: he died at his residence about 1842 or 1843
leaving widow Eliza (CHILDRESS), and children Demarcus L, Frances L,
Mary E, America and Henry O.  Other records show he was born July 4,
1799.

A letter written to me by a distant cousin in 1980 states:

"I know the names of our Sellers ancestors back to my great great
grandparents, Henry Sellers and his wife, Elizabeth Hinkle Sellers.  I
don't have the date of Henry's birth.  The Family Bible record just says
he was born in Pennsylvania and died in Columbus, Ohio in 1831.  He
married Elizabeth Hinkle who was born in Holland  -- I don't have her
birth date either -- and came to Virginia when she was four four years
old.  She also died in Columbus, Ohio.  They had 10 or 12 children but I
don't have the birth and death dates of any of them except George W
Sellers who was my great grandfather.  They are all in the family Bible
record back home in Tennessee."

"George W Sellers was born in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 4,1799.  His
family lived in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia awhile and left there in
1828 to to to Columbus, Ohio.  I don't believe George W went to Columbus
with them because he came to Tennessee and married Eliza Childress about
1824.  He was  a carpenter and helped to build the Childress home which
is still standing (this was in 1980 and since has burned I was told. BT)
in Lincoln County, Tennessee between Pulaski and Fayetteville.  They
were a wealthy family who thought Eliza disgraced herself when she
married a man that had to work for a living.  George W bought the farm
where I grew up and is buried in a field there under an old box tomb.
He was born July 4, 1799 and died May 30, 1842.  Eliza Childress Sellers
was born March 17, 1809 in a stable in Franklin while her family were on
their way from North Carolina to their Tennessee home.  She died April
17, 1893."

Can anyone expand on this information?

I was hoping that some of these Ohio Sellers researchers could tie my
George W to their families.  All I know for surer  is that George "just
showed up" in Giles County TN.  Need some primary or at least secondary
sources if possible.

Does the name   OLIVER D HEVEY   ring any bells with SELLERS researchers
in Ohio?       A letter that I have states that his mother was a sister
to my George W SELLERS.     Bill T

This information has been in the web site but maybe someone new knows
something: Sarah Ann Sellers married Daniel Hevey Dec 25, 1832 in
Franklin County Ohio. Sarah A Hevey is listed in the 1870 census in
Franklin County on Page 076 (I haven't had the opportunity to check this
or other censuses). They had a son or maybe he was a grandson named
Orvile.
Sarah was, according to a letter I have, the sister of George W Sellers,
of Giles County Tennessee, b July 4, 1799 and died May 30, 1842.
Any information would be appreciated.
Bill Trott

Can anyone tie my George Sellers, died in nearby Giles County  May 30,
1842, to these Sellers. He would have been in Lincoln Co. earlier
because he probably built the house of his father-in-law, Reps Osborn
Childress there.

      From:
           Bill Trott <trottbt@hal-pc.org>

Marie, this may be a long e-mail, but bear with me. I will
give some background so people won’t have to go to the web page.

First: My great grandparents were Frances Loretta (Fannie)
Sellers and John W Johnson of Giles County. She was the daughter of
George W Sellers
and Eliza Childress. In March 1980 I received a letter from
Brownie Sellers (since deceased and the g-granddaughter of George W
Sellers) in which she told of a distant cousin from Ohio who used to
visit her father in Giles County TN. His name was Oliver Hevey and he
was a railroad employee and the son of Sarah Ann Sellers Hevey.

Second: I found a marriage record for Sarah and Daniel Hevey
in Franklin Co. OH; Dec 25, 1832. Sarah Hevey is in the 1870 census of
Franklin Co.
OH; the city directory for Columbus, OH, 1891 – 1892 notes
that Sarah is
a widow; and Oliver D Hevey is a foreman for the CHV&T
RailRoad and they
live at 87 W Main Street; the city directory for 1891 – 1892
shows Sarah
(again as widow) and Oliver D Hevey  is now an engineer and
they live at
200 Wilson Ave. All of this confirms what Brownie had
written in 1980.

Now something new – I recently found several letters to my
mother from
Fannie Sellers of Giles Co TN, she would be a granddaughter
of George W Sellers. This one was written Sept 26, 1959.
Begin quotes from letter;
Sarah A Sellers married the Hevey. Cousin Oliver, their son,
copied this record from the family Bible of Henry Sellers and Elizabeth
Hinkle Sellers and sent it to us 40 years ago (that would have been
1919). Just four of them were accounted for. I guess the other seven
scattered all over the country for there are Sellers everywhere.
(Begin ‘record’)
Henry Sellers b. Penn d. 1831 Columbus, Ohio
Elizabeth Hinkle b. Holland d. Columbus, Ohio
Children
William Sellers Dec 7, 1792
John Sellers Dec 31, 1794
Elizabeth Sellers Nov 1, 1795
Catherine Sellers Oct 6, 1797
George W Sellers July 4, 1799
Sarah A Sellers Jan 24, 1811
Heneritta Sellers Nov 23, 1802
Jacob Sellers Dec 10, 1804
Henry Sellers June 27, 1807
Lydia Sellers Nov 25, 1809
Michael Sellers Sept 21, 1812
Mary Sellers July 11, 1815

(death dates must be for the Sellers person, at least for
Sarah and George W)
Sarah A married Daniel Hevey d. 1891
Lydia married Oregon Haris d. 1894
Mary married Jessie Purington
George W married Eliza Childress d. 1842
(end of ‘record’)
(more quotes from letter)
I still think there was another Henry Sellers back of the
one that
married Elizabeth Hinkle. He was a cattle man in Holland and
had a ring
with a cow on that he used for a seal – cousin Oliver Hevey
brought it
to Owen’s boy, Henry.

We have not heard from any of our Northern kin since Cousin
Oliver Hevey
died. He had one daughter. She married Harry Irvin. They had
three
daughters, Fay, Janette and Lorena May. They all live in
Columbus, Ohio.

That is all from the first letter except for information on
George W
Sellers descendants, which I have here. There are two more
letters and I
will post more information if it has to do with Sellers.

Wonder if this could be the Childress with the widow Sally in Limestone

Georgia

===========
Yes ----- Reps Osborn Childress married SECOND, Sarah (Sally) Frazier. In the dower document in Limestone County; the first four children and William H are of the first wife, Mary Hill, and the last three are of Sarah Frazier. Reps and Sarah had two other children who were already dead at that time (1834). Actually this is Reps Osborn Childress Junior, buried between the two wives in the family cemetery at the old Childress home in Lincoln County, TN.

1824. He was a carpenter and helped to build the Childress home which is
still standing in Lincoln County, Tennessee between Pulaski and
Fayetteville. They were a wealthy family who thought Eliza disgraced
herself when she married a man that had to work for a living. George W.
bought the farm where I grew up and is buried in a field there under an
old box tomb. He was born July 4, 1799 and died May 30, 1842. Eliza
Childress Sellers was born March 17 1809 in a stable in Franklin while
her family were on their way from North Carolina to their Tennessee
home. She died April 17, 1893.

============================
BILL, thanks for filling in.

Do you know where your family is in 1790/1800?
Who is Elizabeth/Hannah? Hinkle's father or any member of her family?
WHERE are they in 1790?

WE haven't done a very good job of continuing our older SELLERS from PA, MD, VA on.
and SOME of the kids stayed here in these towns!

HELP where you can.

That's it, Marie. The only information on the Hinkle line is in that
letter and also letters from Frances Sellers, to my Mother in the late
50's. These letters are all I have, no official records
I'll be off line for a few days but will quote the letters more next week.

LINDA sent copies of D. L. SELLERS =
> Posted on Coahoma, MS page

In a letter from Sarah Frances Sellers (she never married and lived in
Pulaski, TN) to my Mother in 1959 or 60 she stated /" Uncle Mark never
married-He died in Ark."/ Marie, there may be a copy of this letter on
my page at your site.

When Powhattan Buchanan (he was my g-grandmother's first husband) died
in Batesville Panola County MS. Mark was there. I have a copy of a
letter he wrote Powhattan's sister about his death. That was 4 Aug 1859.
My g-grandmother was Frances Loretta Sellers Buchanan Johnson and she
later married John Wilson Johnson, my ancestor.

D L Sellers, age 50, is in the household of D L Childress, age 66, in
Coahoma County MS, 1880 census.

I'll see what else I can find.
